Alaska Ship & Drydock, Inc. has announced that a Delivery Ceremony will be held at the Ketchikan Shipyard between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on December 1, 2009, featuring Governor Sean Parnell delivering keynote remarks. The celebration marks delivery of the new marine fueling station to its owner Chevon Canada. Executives of Chevron Canada will also be participating in the event.
The new Chevron Legacy marine fueling station will replace Chevron's existing Coal Harbour Marina in Vancouver, BC. The new barge is 35.4M (116') in length, has a breadth of 18M (59'), a depth of 4.5M (15'), and will double the fuelding capacity of the current facility with 1,250,000 liters (330,215 gallons) of diesel fuel. The Coal Harbour Marina has provided high quality bulk fuel and lubricant products to the marine community in the busy and vibrant Port Metro Vancouver since 1935. The new facility will include a larger merchandising store area and an enhanced bulk lubricant offering.
Alaska Ship & Drydock, Inc. (ASD) commenced construction of the Chevron Legacy in March of 2009. The project has provided employment for an average of 30 workers during the course of the project. ASD believes this is the first steel marine vessel manufactured in Alaska for export in the global shipbuilding market; a notable achievement for any US shipyard.
The Chevron Legacy will also be the first vessel to be launched at the Ketchikan Shipyard using the new floating dry dock installed by AIDEA in June of 2009.
ASD will be launching the M/V Susitna in early 2010. The M/V Susitna is an advanced ship design that ASD and the Office of Naval Research is building to operate as a ferry serving the Matanuska Susitna borough. (pdf flyer)
